Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative stated the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
